David H. Martin Excavating, Inc had the opportunity to assist a local family during the week of Nov 7, 2008 through ABC's hit television show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." Dan Ryan of Dan Ryan Builders contacted ownership about partnering to assist with the demolition of the existing home and excavation for the new home that Dan Ryan was donating to the selected family as a part of the show's sixth season which was identifying local heroes of the community. We were excited to be able to be a part of this wonderful event. The local family was identified by the show's host, Ty Pennington, as Matthew and Blasia Drumm of South Mountain, PA. The Drumm family are helping change the lives of children with disabilities with the Challenger Little League Program. Their volunteerism has never waivered even though their financial hardships did not allow for any improvements on their home. Constructed on a one-time landfill, the well was contaminated, their only source of heat was from a small woodstove, literally their home was falling to pieces around them. In the seven days following the announcement, their lives would be changed forever with the help of a grateful community. David H. Martin Excavating, Inc performed clearing and grubbing, demolition, excavation of the basement, emplacement of the septic system, trucking and lot grading. As well, out volunteers cut and stacked firewood, assisted with landscaping, and moving furniture. The Drumm Family returned from a vacation at Walt Disney World to a new home and new future provided by a caring community. Learn more about the show at www.abc.go.com/primetime/xtremehome. |
